Russia is honestly getting a ton of backlash these days. Think of Ukraine, Navalny, etc.

We'll probably never know, but I wonder how many people are working on smoothing feathers in general. Being a diplomat is probably not easy these days.

Well speaking of Nevalny, his condition is getting worse and worse, so if he dies (is killed) it could be the last straw.

This just came out:

Yeah, what the article says is very true.

I don't even understand why he went back, and now he's on a hunger strike, which does not help his situation either.

He didn't really have a choice other than to return. You can't do this kind of activism in an effective way, if you're outside of the country.

I think he said something like this himself, after releasing the documentary about Putin's Palace.

I partially agree, if you want to continue, you need to be in the midst of it, but at what cost? Death or imprisonment is not going to help you or your efforts, especially when you know that the moment you enter your country you won't be a free man anymore.

I admire his bravery and determination, there should be no doubt about that, but I'm really not sure how much he will be able to do, especially now. Had he been allowed to remain free, it'd be an entirely different case altogether, but that's obviously not going to fly with the people who'd rather have things stay unexposed.
